GEOPHYSICS

Prof. N. Basavaiah

He obtained his M.Sc. (Tech.) degree in Geo-Physics from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and Ph.D. degree in Geo-Physics for the ‘study of earth’s interior through geomagnetic methods’ from University of Mumbai. He was presently working as ‘Professor – G’ in Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), Mumbai. Professionally, he is the ‘Senior Scientist’ and eminent teacher having 34 years vast research experience dealing with ‘Geomagnetic field studies & Physics of magnetism’. Dr. N. Basavaiah has published about 105 research papers in high impact peer-reviewed National & International scientific journals; he was the fellow & member of several scientific bodies and achieved so many honors and awards. The greatest recognisation he achieved in his career is the prestigious ‘National Geoscience Award’ from the Hon’ble President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee in 2016. Dr. Nathani Basavaiah has established a well-equipped state-of-the-art Geomagnetism Research Laboratory at IIG and trained many students and scientists in this modern technology. He was the Indian coordinator for the development and execution of several international and national scientific projects. He teaches General Geophysics (Physics of the Earth, gravity field of the earth, geomagnetism, geo-electricity, Thermal & Radioactive Properties of the earth, Plate Tectonics & Geodynamics and also General Meteorology & Oceanography), Solid Earth Geophysics, Earth & its Potential Fields (Gravity & Magnetic Fields), Geomagnetism (Rock, paleo & archeomagnetism), Exploration Geophysics (Gravity & Magnetic Methods of Prospecting, Electrical Methods etc.,)

Prof. S.K. Arora

Dr. Sanat Kumar Arora, born in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and having received education up to University level at Ajmer in Rajasthan, where he started his career with teaching graduate level Physics at Dayanand College, holds a Master’s Degree in Physics and a Doctorate Degree in Geophysics. He steadily grew to be an eminent scientist internationally renowned for his outstanding work involving advanced research, development and specialized applications over five decades He has held highly reputed positions such as Head, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, Distinguished Scientist Emeritus at National Rock Mechanics Institute (NIRM), Kolar Gold Fields, Hon’ble Director of the Centre for Earthquake Science Studies and Applications (CESSA) instituted by The Indian Planetary Society.

Dr. Arora has authored more than 150 research papers published in national and international journals of repute and have produced an equally large number of invaluable professional documents. He is a Fellow of several prestigious national and international professional bodies and has chaired expert panels of several prominent institutions. An active referee peer reviewing research works, he is on the Editorial Boards of some of the prestigious journals. He is a recipient of several well-deserved merit awards, honours and distinctions. He has widely travelled abroad on invitations as a professional authority in his field.

Currently, Dr. Arora is Scientific Adviser and a Visiting Professor at the Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CEBS) of the University of Mumbai and Department of Atomic Energy (UM-DAE). He specifically teaches Seismology, Signal Processing & its applications in Geophysics.

Dr. Maxwell Kanu

Dr. Kanu bagged his M.Sc. degree Physics and PhD degree in Geophysics from the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Nigeria. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Physics an African Geophysical Society and specifically he teaches general geophysics. He is also associated with Geo-Physics faculty of U-Learn Academy.

Dr. K. Ravi Chandra

He obtained his M.Sc. (Tech.) degree in Geo-Physics from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and Ph.D. degree in Physics for the studies on ‘magnetic monitoring of environmental pollution in Visakhapatnam city using rock magnetic techniques’ from GITAM Deemed University, Visakhapatnam. He qualified all India level ‘Joint CSIR-UGC NET exam (2010) and achieved ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship (JRF+LS)’ in the discipline ‘Earth, atmospheric, planetary and ocean sciences’. He has a vast teaching experience of about 15 years in ‘Physics’ (IIT-JEE/IIT-JAM/AIEEE/B.Sc./Engineering Physics) and ‘Geophysics (General & Exploration Geophysics)’, participated in several seminars and published good research articles.  His research interests include physics of magnetism and applications of magnetic methods. He had worked as Assistant Professor in Geo-Physics, Department of Geosciences for 12 years in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Srikakulam (AP). Presently, he was the faculty member in the ‘Department of Physics, Krishnaveni Group of Institutions for graduate & post graduate college studies, NRT, Guntur District (AP). He teaches all General Geophysics topics including General Meteorology & Oceanography, Mathematical Methods in Geophysics, Signal processing, Potential Field theory, Applied/Exploration Geophysics (Gravity, Magnetic, Electrical, Electromagnetic, Seismic, Well Logging (Borehole Geophysics) & Radiometric Methods of Prospecting etc.,)

PHYSICS

Prof. Shrikant Watve

He obtained his M.Sc. degree in Physics and Ph.D. degree in Physics for the studies on ‘Electrical and magnetic properties of Li substituted Co ferrites synthesized using conventional ceramic method’ from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. He got research projects from UGC and DST for continuing research in Nanoferrites for medical applications. He is the life member of reputed research organizations. He has travelled abroad for his research presentations. Also he attended several seminars, conferences and symposiums. He has a vast teaching and research experience in Physics over 33 years and published good research articles in National and International indexed journals. He was the Principal of a degree college in University of Mumbai before his retirement.

Dr. Maxwell Kanu

Dr. Kanu bagged his M.Sc. degree Physics and PhD degree in Geophysics from the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Nigeria. His thesis focused on the application of environmental magnetic techniques to soil pollution assessment. He won the Tertiary Educatio Trust Fund (TET Fund) Bench work award to perform advanced mineral magnetic measurements at the Environmental Magnetic Laboratory, IIG, Navi-Mumbai under the supervisor of Prof. Nathani Basavaiah. He has vast experience in teaching and research and has taught Physics (specifically, Thermodynamics, Waves and Vibrations and Optics etc.) and general Geophysics. Dr. Kanu has published many research articles in both national an international peer reviewed journals. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Physics an African Geophysical Society. Currently, he worked is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics, Taraba State University, Jalingo, Nigeria.

Dr. K. Ravi Chandra

Dr. K. Ravi Chandra with his vast 15 years of teaching experience in Physics (IIT-JEE/IIT-JAM/AIEEE/B.Sc./Engineering Physics) is also associated with Physics faculty of U-Learn Academy. He teaches Mechanics and General Properties of Matter, Waves & Oscillations, Optics, Thermodynamics, Modern Physics, Classical & Quantum Mechanics, Electricity & Magnetism, Electrodynamics. 

Dr. D. Venkatesh

He obtained his M.Sc. degree in Physics and Ph.D. degree in Physics for the studies on ‘electrical and magnetic properties of Cu substituted Ni-Zn nanocrystalline ferrites synthesized via citrate gel autocombustion route’ from GITAM Deemed University, Visakhapatnam. He got ‘Merit Scholarship award’ from GITAM University. His specific research disciplines are material science and nano-sciences. Also he attended several seminars, conferences and symposiums. He has a vast teaching and research experience in Physics of about 10 years and published good research articles in national and international indexed journals. He was presently working as ‘Assistant Professor, Department of Physics’ in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Srikakulam (AP). He teaches Mathematical Methods in Physics, Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Modern Physics, Solid State Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Nuclear & Particle Physics.

Mr. K.V. Ganesh Kumar

He obtained his M.Sc. degree in Physics from Andhra University.  He qualified all India level ‘Joint CSIR-UGC NET exam (2009)’ and achieved ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship (JRF+LS)’ in the Physics discipline.  He procured State 3rd Rank in the recruitment of Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) for Lecturers in Government Degree Colleges in 2011. He has a vast teaching experience in Physics. Presently, he was working as Lecturer and Assistant Professor of Physics in D.R.G. Government Degree College, West Godavari District (AP). He Authored Digital Study Material for Undergraduate Physics Syllabus & developed a blog with URL ‘www.ganeshkurakula.blogspot.in’ focusing on the Applications of Physics entitled “Fascinating Physics”. He teaches Mathematical Methods in Physics, Electricity & Magnetism, Electromagnetism, Atomic & Molecular Physics, Electronics & Experimental Methods, Thermodynamics & Statistical Physics.    

GEOLOGY

Prof. J. Seetharamaiah

He did his M.Sc. (Geology) from Andhra University and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Geology for the studies of ‘sedimentology and marine geology’ from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. He worked as Assistant Professor, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun, India from 2007 - 2011. Presently, he is the Associate Professor in the Department of Geology, School of Mines and Petroleum, Engineering, College of Earth sciences, University of Dodoma, Tanzania. He has a vast teaching experience of more than 20 years in the field of Geology. Also, he had several publications in national and international journals, seminars and conferences and handled several scientific research projects and guided many research students. He teaches all basic subjects in geology, Maine Geology, Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, eology, Mining Economic geology, Fuel Geology, Coal & Petroleum geology. 

Dr. K. Bangaku Naidu

He did his M.Sc. (Geology) from Andhra University and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Geology for the studies of “Geochemistry and Industrial Suitability of Economic Heavy Minerals of Bhimunipatnam – Konada Coastal Sands, Andhra Pradesh, East Coast of India”  from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. He qualified CSIR NET in earth sciences (25th Rank), and Worked as Junior Research Fellow (JRF), Department of Geology, Andhra University from 2012 - 2013. Then Worked as Senior Research Fellow (CSIR-SRF), Department of Geology, Andhra University from 1st April, 2013 to 31st March, 2016. Also, Worked as Dr. D. S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship, Department of Environmental Science and Technology, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) from 2017 to 2020 under the Project Title “Environmental Significance of the Study of the Sediments and Benthic Foraminifera and Ostracoda from the Polluted Waters: A Case Study from East Coast of India”. He teaches Mineralogy, Optical Mineralogy, Petrology, Geochemistry and Principles of Thermodynamics, Engineering Geology, Structural Geology, Paleontology, Micropaleontology, Indian Stratigraphy, and Environmental Sciences.
